Funding For Climate & Environmental Justice: Expressions of Interest Welcome Now!
WomenStrong International provides unrestricted grants to women-led organizations working in their communities. We strive to make our application process as burden-free as possible, in alignment with the gender-equitable principles of both us and our grantees.
We have no geographic limitations to where we fund.
We are passionate about investing in organizations with an entrepreneurial spirit that need support to validate or advance their early-stage, non-traditional ideas for tackling the greatest challenges facing women and girls. We want to fund organizations where a small investment will have a large impact.
We ask that our grantee partners join the WomenStrong Learning Lab. The Learning Lab is a (mostly) virtual community that brings our partners together to share, learn, and disseminate findings that can advance the evidence base for what works to improve the lives of women and girls. The Lab also provides opportunities for our partners to strengthen their capacity and connect with each other, so that they might strengthen their work and develop, test, sharpen, and disseminate their solutions more broadly.
To date, WomenStrong International has supported women-driven organizations around the world that address one or more of the following issues: Girls’ Education and Empowerment, Women’s Health, Violence Against Women and Girls, and Economic Security and Opportunity.
From November 1, 2024, WomenStrong will be actively seeking potential grantees that identify as local women-led organizations working in urban and peri-urban areas on climate and/or environmental justice-related issues and taking a gender-responsive approach.

~~~~~
Women have a vital role to play in fighting for climate and environmental justice.
This is demonstrated all over the world, as women come together to challenge the causes and effects of climate change. However, while feminist action has the potential to transform local, national, and even international efforts to tackle climate crises across the globe, these actions are often undervalued and underfunded.
In 2025, WomenStrong International will begin working with community-based, women-led organizations that are building movements, mobilizing local responses, and creating resilient, effective, and sustainable responses to climate-related crises in their communities and countries.
We are seeking to build a cohort of women-led organizations striving to raise awareness of and build movements around climate and environmental justice within their communities. These organizations will work to mobilize women, both as the people most affected by climate breakdown and environmental injustice, but also as the key drivers behind local actions to tackle them. Many will work at the intersections of gender and climate and tackle the same issues that our current 19 WomenStrong partners work on – reproductive health, girls’ education, women’s economic security, and preventing violence against women and girls – as these issues are not only exacerbated by the climate crisis, but because successful strategies for advancing climate and environmental justice require intersectional approaches.
We will welcome our new cohort to share their solutions and knowledge in our Learning Lab where we will cultivate the synergies between our new grantee partners working on climate-related issues and those already in the Lab. All our grantees come together in the Lab to explore common topics for discussion, encourage each other’s learning and growth, and share resources and lessons learned.
If your organization works on climate and environment-related issues and is interested in becoming an active participant of the WomenStrong Learning Lab, we invite you to apply to be a grantee partner.
